I have read a huge number of naval fiction books from the age of sails – including all of the famous series (Hornblower, Aubrey/Maturin, Richard Bolitho, Alan Lewrie, and so on). However, I have not come across any series of books dealing with the era of steamships, steel ships and novel naval technology.  Neither have I been able to find any good historical fiction books dealing with this time period.
Does anybody have book authors/series/titles or even movies (DVD) to recommend? I want to learn more about how this technological shift affected naval strategy and tactics, as well as navy life and organization, but I would love to read about it in a fictionalized form!
